Grandson of Gror 1
This is my favorite combat deck. The reasons:
-
It has Dori in it, and he is a decent fellow. Also, I did not understand why anyone would want him in a deck until I made this one. With a few attachments, he can make Grimbeorn the Old strong enough to defend against the Balrog, or defend for himself with some armor against lesser enemies.
-
I love playing Hour of Wrath. With Aragorn and Grimbeorn powered up, this deck can clear the table of enemies in a hurry.
A caveat: this deck cannot quest. At all.
If you want to make the deck more thematic for Ered Mithrin and just use dwarves and Beornings, Gimli is almost as good as Aragorn. He is just missing the ability to engage everything during the Hour of Wrath. Although I have a scenario in mind where Dori came to the Council of Elrond instead of Gloin and Gimli (and dragged Grimbeorn with him) and they join up with Aragorn to maraud through Moria, Helm's Deep, etc.

Apr 14, 2025Glad to hear someone else likes Dori! We don't own the Forth, The Three Hunters! contract (RCO and ALEP only until the next group print order) and my son only likes physical cards. The contract would help. I also thought about Onward Into Battle for Aragorn, but decided against it. That would be good with the contract, I think. Thanks for the comment, and I look forward to seeing your deck! |
I had a similar idea for a deck. Have you considered tossing the allies in favor of Forth, The Three Hunters! contract? That might take care of your questing issue. Also, if you are in valor with 40+ threat, pretty much everything on the board is coming your way anyway, which makes Aragorn's ability with Hour of Wrath (one of my favorite cards as well) a little less valuable. I like his -1D though.
