This is an update of my original version of this deck, reworked to both be more consistent in terms of more copies of important cards and to have a lower cost curve in case you don't draw King of Dale early enough.
Many of the changes were made specifically with playing it in a fellowship with my Go Birds! deck in mind. See the fellowship's description for more details on how to play the two decks together.
Significant cards that I took out from the last iteration of this deck:
- Steward of Gondor: The deck already has a low cost curve and built-in cost reduction (King of Dale) and resource generation (Traffic from Dale). Plus I only have one hero and no need for a large amount of resources at a time (the allies can be played without a resource match with King of Dale and the attachments can be paid for by Bard), so putting it on Brand is a waste and putting it on anyone else means I just used up two turns worth of resources.
- Wiglaf and Raiment of War: A fun combo, but neither of them were useful enough on their own (i.e. when drawing one without drawing the other) to justify including them in this version of the deck.
- Cram: Replaced with Spare Hood and Cloak and Unexpected Courage. The original intent was to put Cram on Lanwyn to give her the boost and eventually ready her for a ranged attack if necessary, but Spare Hood and Cloak works better in this deck because it can go on allies too, and Unexpected Courage is just good.
- Ancient Mathom: Replaced with Ranger Provisions. Originally intended to help Go Birds! draw more cards, it turned out to be largely unnecessary once I reworked GB! to be fully focused on Eagles and reworked D2UT to have a lower cost curve so that it would be easier to draw cards by playing attachments. Ranger Provisions is here to help Go Birds! if it struggles with resources.
- Faramir: Too expensive and can't be reduced with King of Dale, especially considering I only have one hero.
- A Very Good Tale: I wanted to add it, but I decided against it because of the relatively low number of alliesĀ and complete lack of expensive allies (besides Gandalf) in the deck.
Fun thing you can do with this deck:
- Play Spare Hood and Cloak on a character with no other attachments. Draw a card with Brand son of Bain.
- Play Gandalf, then exhaust him to quest/defend/attack. Optional: Play an attachment (such as another Spare Hood and Cloak) on him and draw another card.
- Use the Spare Hood and Cloak to ready Gandalf, then exhaust Gandalf to defend/attack again.
- When Gandalf leaves play at the end of the round, return the SHaC (and any other attachments that Gandalf had) to your hand with Bard son of Brand.
- Next round, play the SHaC on the character that used to have it but now doesn't have any attachments and draw another card.
This gives you:
- Gandalf's ability
- Not one but two uses of Gandalf's stats
- Two card draws
All for the cost of just one Spare Hood and Cloak that you don't even have to give up! And SHaC isn't limited to one per character, so you can repeat the steps as many times in a round as you have Spare Hood and Cloaks for extra uses of Gandalf's stats and extra card draws.
