I've been excited for the repackaged Ered Mithrin cycle and this deck celebrates that. It's a pretty straightforward Eagles combat deck: quest with Éowyn, use Radagast to play eagles, quest and defend if necessary, and use Grimbeorn the Old to defend and attack.
Here are some notes about some of the cards in this deck that you might not find in a typical Eagle deck:
- Flight of the Eagles brings back Meneldor to spam his ability or a cheaper Eagle to play again next round to make Radagast not exhaust to quest that round.
- Both copies of Support of the Eagles goe on Grimbeorn. If another deck is running , see if they can throw an Unexpected Courage on him as well.
- Ghân-buri-Ghân isn't an Eagle, but he has consistently overperformed every time I got him into play.
- Gwaihir's Debt is the reason why I have 3x Meneldor and 3x Gandalf in this deck: Meneldor to play Gwaihir's Debt, and Gandalf is the best payoff for it, with Eagles of the Misty Mountains as a second best. Don't overlook that Gwaihir's Debt combos really really well with Wizard Pipe if you have both Gwaihir's Debt and Gandalf in hand.
- Miner of the Iron Hills is tech against the Ered Mithrin treachery that attaches to a hero and makes it discard its attachments.
- Protector of Lórien can go on Grimbeorn or can be passed around the table if another player is doing a lot of the questing.
PS: This deck also celebrates the Philadelphia Eagles' victory over the Washington Commanders and advance to the Super Bowl on Sunday Jan 27 2025. It's too bad most of the Eagle cards are in , because having another hero would go better with the Eagles' green color. Go Birds!
