Updated version of my Hobbit deck including some Mount Gundabad cards.
Again, this is a pretty standard Black Riders Hobbits deck but with a nod more towards theme than strength to fit the Saga campaign. So I tried to only include people that specifically helped out these heroes throughout their journeys, hence the potentially unusual inclusion of Galadriel, Halbarad, Boromir, etc.
As before, the Hobbit heroes take center stage so it's all about attachments. Mulligan for Fast Hitch and Rosie, remember that she can have Fast Hitch too, although I'd put the first on Sam or Merry depending on the quest.
As a reminder, Frodo also gives Merry that extra +1.
Because of the importance of the heroes, Condition attachments are important to remove, and this deck has no built in solutions for that, so you can tech that in or bring a 2nd deck. Elrond would be the thematic pick assuming you're not playing in a fellowship with the hero. Another slight weakness is location control, although there is a ton of willpower in this deck.
(Note that I play this in a fellowship with other decks that have big allies, but if playing this deck alone I would take out Elf-Stone for Sneak Attack and another Gandalf).
Hope you enjoy again!

May 06, 2022As a standalone deck, I would absolutely add Legolas and Gimli, they would be great additions and certainly balance out resources and cards. I personally play the deck as part of a fellowship, and those 2 are in the other deck. I should probably publish just that, and convert this into a solo deck with your suggestions. I did take Gandalf and sneak attack out of this version, but you're right, I do believe they should go back in. I added the Shirefolk here because it was new and cool but honestly, Gandalf does the same thing and you really aren't struggling for resources, as you know. Peace and Thought though is super intriguing, and definitely something I didn't consider. I will give that a try! |
May 06, 2022If you want to go for some serious theme, you might consider ditching the wardens (and replacing them with some healing events) and adding the Fellowship contract. Since it doesn't require a major deck change, it'll give you that boost once you get 5 allies in (assuming Frodo is on your side when that happens) |
May 06, 2022Yep, the Wardens are definitely the least thematic part of the deck. Fellowship is a great idea, although I don't own any of the contracts sadly. |
May 07, 2022I think the Shirefolk is amazing, great threat reduction, no cost, synergises with deck strategy and frees up gandalf to draw cards or deal damage. Honestly, I'd take 3 copies of Shirefolk. |
May 07, 2022If I make changes to add Peace and Thought, more Gandalf, and Legolas, to Drinking Song and Pippin's ability, do we think we have enough card draw to have more than 50 cards in the deck? I'm having trouble finding enough things to remove to keep the characters I'm hoping for and a good balance of spheres. |
May 09, 2022Never ever go over 50 cards, it's not efficient: I'd ditch Galadriel, Barliman Butterbur and 1 warden of healing. Then you have 5 slots to fit in another 2 gandalf and 3 sneak attacks. I'd cut 2 elf stones for 2 peace and thought. You could ditch 1x mablung and 1x hobbit cloak to make way for gimli and legolas. |
May 09, 2022agree to Fram but would discard 2 farmer maggot, he is not worth it and expensive, 1 mablung 1 barliman and 1 warden. think galadriel is nice to get the important attachements quick e.g. 2 Friend of Friends perhaps consider a Errand-rider and/or Resourceful |
Speaking about theme, I feel there need to be legolas and gimli, and i wouldn't mind more gandalfs and more sneak attack. I'd throw in 2-3 peace and thought too for good measure. I've tested some quests and I always tend to end up with lots of resources and no cards in hand.
