The BGamerJoe 5267
I've been working on beating Wrath and Ruin solo for a couple weeks now and this is the deck that I finally beat it with. You can see the play through here on YouTube.
This is a Haldan deck with Súlien as a low threat Scout hero and Gandalf to help with early card draw and defense. I have a lot of 1x cards in here as none of them are absolutely crucial but each piece helps strengthen the whole.
Helpful pieces for Wrath and Ruin and other combos include:
- Thrór's Key to stop the "when explored" effects on the nastier locations
- Eryn Galen Settler to discard duplicates of those nasty locations.
- Expert Treasure-hunter and Hidden Cache set up with Wizard Pipe
- A Burning Brand on Gandalf with Arwen Undómiel boosting his defense.
- Reforged the zero cost Woodmen's Clearing, sometimes even during the quest phase before resolution.
- Firyal can stop the nasty 4 enemy that surges.
- Gildor can work as an expensive secondary Wizard Pipe if you don't need him during the quest or combat phase.
- Scouting Party doesn't necessarily need to be used for a huge questing push so much as letting a bunch of other characters stay ready for a solid combat phase. It's pretty expensive for this deck so I just put 1 copy in. It might be the defining moment of the gamee!
This deck is specifically customized for solo Wrath and Ruin but it is pretty strong and viable for other quests and even multiplayer as well. Some of the sideboard cards like the Dunedain Pathfinder are helpful in quests that don't serve up so many locations like Wrath and Ruin.

Nov 24, 2020Reforged is just an action so you can play it in any action window. |
Nov 24, 2020hm, perhaps you are right. that makes that event more powerfull as i thought... usually you can play an attachement only in the planning phase does this event cancel that? i dont know. but a good question. if it is similar to stand and fight it should work every time you have actionwindow. but the wording on reforged is "play" (not put). and play is usally in the questphase. on the other side, with thranduil you can "play" in the combatphase. now i am not sure ^^ |
Nov 24, 2020I am sure. :) |
Nov 24, 2020and why different wording on stand and fight and reforged? |
Nov 24, 2020That I don’t know. I guess because one is core set and one is 8 years into the game? |
Nov 25, 2020The wording difference between "play" and "put in play" is wheter you are paying the card cost or not. The difference in wording between Stand and Fight and Reforged can be probably due to how the game design advanced, as mentioned by Anyway yes, you can use Reforged to play attachments outside of the Planning Phase, that's one of the card's great strenghts (we often use it to drop a Secret Vigil during the combat phase or some location attachments during the quest phase). I have seen Caleb play the card like that with a Woodman deck, and he should know :D |
Nov 25, 2020kk thx ;) |
you can attach woodmans clearing only during the planning phase, its an attachement, so, reforging it during questphase is not of special use.
beside that, nice herosetup.
