mathom 13

mathom has a newer deck inspired by this one: Eagles!

This deck works best when paired with a dedicated questing deck and is intended for two-player games, but has enough questing power, card draw, and threat reduction included to make solo-play possible, if difficult.

The strategy is fairly straightforward. Beregond get loaded with Citadel Plate, Gondorian Shield, Support of the Eagles and The Day's Rising to make him an uber-defender with resource acceleration. Equip Legolas with Rivendell Blade, Support of the Eagles and Rohan Warhorse to let him mow down the opposition. Sam gets Celebrían's Stone and the last Support of the Eagles to make a decent quester that can fight. His self-readying will often trigger, depending on the quest, and give some more man-power especially during the early turns when threat is low and resources are sparse.

The deck has some card draw in the form of Campfire Tales, The Eagles Are Coming!, and Valiant Sacrifice. There is certainly room for improvement in this area. Also Steward of Gondor is included because it is insane resource acceleration and works with The Day's Rising. It isn't critical to the deck and can easily be removed in favor of +2x The Day's Rising if another deck needs the Steward.

The only card worth muliganning for is probably Eagles of the Misty Mountains as you want a copy in play as early as possible. This will power up your heroes and make losing your eagles sting less.

This deck has been really fun to pilot. When paired with a questing deck, it has the potential to protect the table and clear every enemy out of the staging area.

UPDATE: Replacements for multi-player:
