this is imo a thematic and balanced way to play the 2 imo usable to exploit to op-ness inappropiate contracts. and perhaps the way it was intended.
bargaining and riddles is (according to the books) accociated to bilbo. bilbo alone was rarely playable to be a good deck. this is thematic and very playable.
you start with 3 attachments, thx to contracts and The One Ring. for thematic reasons i take Sting as "the present", the default of The Grey Wanderer is Strider. depending if defense from the start is needed, the ringcard could be Inner Strength else Well Preserved or The Master Ring
with Strider and The Grey Wanderer you have 3 actions from the start
you have 7 cards that are not your sphere, so choose wisely, if one of the ld-events is playable do it.
if you fullfill the conditions for Master Burglar use it for free else it is a decent card within the game if more quest ing is needed.
build your boardstate with Timely Aid and other payed allies. Resourceful helps to gget the expensive ones out if payed normally.
try to get Gandalf out he is the backbone of your boardstate specially with his toys Gandalf's Staff and Shadowfax because of the low startingthread you can hold gandalf for a long time. if you think you have problems with thread, include The Shirefolk
little tricks:
- Gaffer Gamgee is a solid way for defending and can be payd every round if needed
- with Sting and Inner Strength he defends with 4 and shadowcancelling + reaction of Sting (from the stat if needed)
- Half-pint can help to do it moreoften
- Fast Hitch or Fatty Lumpkin for even more actions on him
- Erebor Hammersmith comes by in the dancing pony and reucour him a Half-pint
- his friends Dori or Barliman Butterbur help him out if it becomes dire (also a Loyal Hound ) until their lifesaving is needed they can fight
- Henamarth Riversong also good for scrying a shadowcard not only staging
- Haleth might be the most non-thematic card, leave it out if u want else could be a nice addition to carddraw
- the old tree Treebeard is as better the sooner he comes into play
