Galadantien 8
One of a personal collection of decks I’ve built both physically and digitally striving to make the most powerful but still thematic combinations I could with my entire card pool – primarily tested for two player (or two handed) matches.
Starting Hand (Mulligan For): This deck is very strong and versatile, so what you get iis again, less important. Pick “Power of Command” for your master card in most cases. Starting hands that offer card draw are wise – Peace and Thought, Gandalf/Sneak Attack. You want Dagger on Merry quickly to setup your combat powerhouse. Cloak on Sam for a reliable defender. Threat management is always important with a One Ring Deck – so an Elevenses, The Shirefolk or Double Back is nice.
Resource Gen & Card Draw: Pippin offers extra cards regularly unless your partner uses doomed cards. And Peace and Thought is an easy cost to pay with four heroes. More valuable, I’ve found, than Drinking Song. Many cards in this deck are 2 cost, so four heroes means by round two you can play four of about anything.
Questing: Is strong with 9 willpower out the gate and many allies usually following quickly. Power of Command lets you boost this by 4-8 every turn on average (many allies in this deck are unique, so benefit from its effect). You’ll want fast hitch on Merry so he can quest and be ready for combat.
Combat: You have a reliable strategy with the heroes. When you engage an enemy, most times, Sam readies and Merry gets boosted to 6 attack. If Sam can’t block the enemy with his boost and a cloak, Frodo can take anything undefended and use his effect to add it to your threat. Just be careful and sure you have cards handy to lower it again. A few allies usually make up any difference needed. And Gandalf gets played regulalrly with this deck, so there’s an extra 4 damage to finish anything off you need to.
Partners (Fellowships): In my experience, this deck is a dream partner for about anyone. It quests well. It holds its own in combat. And it has some encounter deck management in the form of card cancellation and increasing all enemy engagement costs by 4.
