MMeister 5

This is my deck for the Solo League 79 hosted over at boardgamegeek.com (https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3470571/solo-league-79-shadows-of-mirkwood-with-khazad-dum). The challenge? Face down Journey to Rhosgobel, the Hills of Emyn Muil and Return to Mirkwood with a deck using a hero from those three APs (Prince Imrahil, Brand or Dain) and a cardpool of 1 original Core and the first two cycles. With these quests having some very specific demands, it was a bit of challenge coming up with a deck concept.

In the end I came up with this! To start off with, I’ll note I don’t actually have the last 3 APs of Dwarrowdelf so I wanted to keep the number of cards I’d have to proxy from those APs to a bare minimum. I’m happy I got it down to just 2: Imladris Stargazer and Light of Valinor – for both I used RiddermarkLords alt-arts which are stunning! Both of these were necessary to get Elrond firing on all cylinders, although if not restricted to 1 Core (and thus 1 Unexpected Courage) I could get away without Light of Valinor.

It can be a bit slow to get going: there’s quite a few pieces you need to get into play and depending on your starting hand it can be a slog finding them. Once in top gear, it’s fairly unstoppable!

Starting Hand

You’re obviously looking for parts of the key engine: Vilya, Stargazer, Light of Valinor/Unexpected Courage (to enable an action out of Elrond). Failing this, you want card draw (Daeron’s Runes or Gleowine) to dig these out asap. Additionally for each of the 3 quests there’s different cards you want to prioritise: Lore of Imladris (Rhosgobel), Northern Tracker (Emyn Muil), threat reduction: Galadhrim’s Greeting, Elronds Counsel and Elfhelm (Return to Mirkwood).

Results

Rhosgobel: 1 game, 1 win

Hills of Emyn Muil: 1 game, 1 win

Return to Mirkwood: 3 games, 1 win. The two losses caused by consecutive reveals of Trolls in round 3 and 4 and in the 2nd game, failing to find any of my threat reduction options and threating out at end of round 5.
