When Frodo and his small company were on their journey to Rivendell, they encountered an interesting fellow by the name of Tom Bombadil. Tom saved Frodo and his companions from the clutches of Old Man Willow (A very grumpy tree), and invited them to his home.

There, Frodo discovered something incredible about Tom. The Ring of Power, the "One ring to rule them all" Couldn't rule this one man in any way. It had no effect on him at all. Not when he wore the ring or when anyone else did. If fact, Tom Bombadil could make the ring disappear meaning that perhaps Tom could control the ring itself, instead of the ring controlling him.

However, according to Gandalf, Tom Bombadil would have been an unsafe guardian if given the ring of power. If it were given to Tom for safekeeping, he would soon forget all about it and throw it away. Therefore, the idea of hiding the ring of power in the safety of Tom Bombadil's home was abandoned.

But what if the counsel concluded that Tom should not keep the ring for himself, but instead take it to Mordor and throw it in the fires of Mount Doom Himself? What if they had asked him to do this task? And what if he accepted?

This deck explores this alternate story line of Tom and Goldberry's journey to the other end of Middle Earth. It started out well, In the great barrows, a land where Tom and Goldberry were no strangers. Tom even found something in one of the barrows. A shield made of solid gold, and an ancient but sharp blade (which he named Herugrim). In the great journey he used this sword to kill many an orc, spider, man, and Witch King (Yes, he just didn't want to stay dead). But it soon became more apparent that they got more than they bargained for, for soon they met a strange and hungry creature by the name of Gollum. Gollum said to be looking for his "Precious". What his "precious" actually was, Tom could not figure out. Gollum felt it in his soul that his precious was close, but where was it? Tom and Goldberry did not seem to possess any ring, except for that one Tom had on his finger. However, Tom was completely visible, so that couldn't be it right?

A special thanks to the ALEP community for making a Tom Bombadil hero, and making him good and fun to play. I have been waiting for a good Tom Bombadil character for years, and you did not disappoint!

I have played this deck through all the Lord of the Rings quests that would have involved Fellowship Frodo, and using this deck have beaten them all at the first try (except for journey to the crossroads, which took me three tries). I have also used a few house rules, like using this The One Ring, putting it on Tom Bombadil, and getting rid of Frodo. But I also used some more to make the playthrough a little more thematic. For more information about these house rules, see the quest logs. Feel free to comment on the logs as well if I have not explained if full enough.

For some reason, the quest logs didn't want to connect to this publication, so I tried to manually add them back in. They might not be in perfect order.

Very interesting take on an alternate, yet somewhat thematic, storyline. I love that about this game; you can explore any number of ideas and scenarios. All you need is a little imagination!

Interesting idea -- but how are you winning The Riddle-game with this distribution of card costs? 35 of your cards are 1-cost -- it seems like you'll often lose?

For example, in "A Shadow of the Past" there are exactly 2 encounter cards with 1

Cool idea, but probably Tom is immune to the Ring because he doesn't want to use it at all. You would probably have to not use Inner Strength to be thematic.

To Kjeld: Because of Stone of Elostirion, I usually have a lot of cards in my hand. I also kept revealing treacheries. I looked into what to do if a treachery is revealed with hungry creature but found nothing. So, I assume you discard a 0-cost card? Even with this I did lose a few times, but because of the extra cards I got through the stone Tom was able to use his 12+ willpower to pull off a win anyway.

To Fluffy 1: I'm sorry I do not understand. Tom is not only immune to the ring, but has power over the ring. Therefore he would have much more inner strength than Frodo himself. Because of this, I picked it because it seemed the most thematic.

To Fluffy 1: I do not understand. Tom Is not immune to the ring, but he has power over the ring. Therefore, he would have had more inner strength than anyone else in middle earth. More than Frodo, Denethor, or even Gandalf. That is why I picked Inner strength. I thought it would be the most thematic.

I thought Gandalf said Tom had no power over the Ring, just the Ring has no power over him.
