Into the West + Every Other Contract
Part 2
With the release of Beyond the Original Bargain, I am now working on a follow up to my original article on Into the West from over two and a half years ago. For that original article I built a bunch of Into the West decks--this time I'm building a bunch of decks that combine Into the West with every other contract. When I've published that article I will update this deck description with a link to it, and that article will have all my thoughts on this particular contract combination.
Playing this Deck
Gwaihir and Radagast are a natural fit for At the End of All Things because their inherent action advantage lets them take advantage of having all their stats boosted. Eagles are a natural fit for Into the West because of their enter- and leave-play abilities. Combining the two is therefore also a natural fit!
I've discussed before how Gwaihir's Debt is fantastic for Into the West because you can get an ally in for a single resource, they will last the entire round, and then with Into the West you get to fully refund their printed cost. This resource acceleration is especially handy in an At the End of All Things deck where you are generating only 2 resources per round. Use this trick, as well as Radagast's Staff, to get Eagles in for cheap and then refund them on the way out.
When your table needs some killing, make use of Hour of Wrath and Support of the Eagles on Gwaihir to block and attack for the entire table. Even without Support of the Eagles, Gwaihir is defending for 4 and attacking for 5. It only goes up from there.

Nov 12, 2024i would replace 1 Strider and perhaps if u want to use it, 1-2 Vassal of the Windlord with Word of Command to search what is needed the most. how do u play it, does the leaving eagle because of the contract Into the West can be added to a Eagles of the Misty Mountains? i am not completely sure (asked that question here ringsdb.com but no one answered until now) |
Nov 12, 2024Replacing 1x Strider with 1x Word of Command is a really good shout, actually. I hesitate to remove any allies from an Into the West, though. They need to be in the deck because you are losing an ally every round and you need to keep it fueled with allies. No, you cannot put an eagle face down under Eagles of the Misty Mountains when they are removed from the game from Into the West. We have a ruling from Eagle of the North that when an ally is removed from the game (like is the case with allies with the Encounter keyword) they cannot be placed under Eagles of the Misty Mountains. |
Nov 12, 2024where is that ruling regarding Eagle of the North? i have never read it. |
Crazy strong deck. Tested against a few standard quests, and the deck steamrolled. Very good for multiplayer, doesn´t use the standard power cards.
