QotW: Beating Passage through Mirkwood Without a Deck 1.0

For this quest of the week I figured I'd jump on the janky deck bandwagon and see if I could beat the quest after "removing my deck from my deck" as it were. Apparently encounter decks hate it when you do this, but I don't see what the big deal is!

The cards listed here are just to make it legal/publishable. Passage through Mirkwood can be beaten with just these heroes, without the deck. Not that this particular list of cards would help you any.

It takes a little luck from the encounter deck's side, but not much. It only took me 2 attempts to win via "Don't Leave the Path!" (killing Ungoliant's Spawn), and 1 attempt to win via "Beorn's Path" (10 progress).

Here is my win via Ungoliant's Spawn, which I think takes a little more luck.

Turn 1

34 threat level, 3 in staging.

Quest with everyone (11 ), reveal Forest Gate. (2 ). Deal 2 damage to Treebeard. Total 13-5=8 progress. Advance to stage 2.

Engage Forest Spider, take attack undefended. Shadow: Dol Guldur Orcs (+3 for undefended). Assign to Frodo, raise threat by 6 (threat level now 42). Refresh.

Turn 2

43 threat level, 3 in staging.

Quest with Eowyn and Treebeard. Reveal King Spider (3 ). Exhaust Sam for its when revealed.

Deal 1 damage to Treebeard. 8-6 = 2 progress. Advance to stage 3. Put Ungoliant's Spawn into play.

Travel to Old Forest Road and ready Treebeard. Engage King Spider and Ungoliant's Spawn.

Take Ungolant's Spawn undefended. No shadow. Kill off Sam. Take Forest Spider Undefended. No shadow. Assign to Frodo, raise threat by 2 (now 45). Defend King Spider with Frodo. No shadow. 1 damage to Frodo.

Ready Eowyn (threat level 48). Eowyn and Treebeard easily kill Ungoliant's Spawn.
