Gandalf's Staff defends with A Burning Brand and Dúnedain Warning
Quest with Lanwyn and Galdor of the Havens in the beginning. Put Unexpected Courage on Galdor as soon as possible so that you can ready him to attack after questing. If you can stand Lanwyn, her attack power is a bonus.
If you don't have Wizard Pipe, take a mulligan. Bilbo Baggins is plan B to get his pipe which will be needed to buy most cards.
Gandalf's ability to see the top card of the deck is exploited with Expert Treasure-hunter and Zigil Miner.
