BloodVigilante 136
"But, my lord, there is no such-" Gríma faltered, his feeble voice fading into nothing. Saruman had vanished from the room with the Ring, replaced by some hooded stranger. "Who are you?!" The corrupt servant hissed, extremely confused by this event. "My threat got too high, so I used Helm of Secrecy," the stranger responded, removing his cloak. It was none other than the son of Arathorn, Aragorn himself! The king of Gondor inspected the Ring, before slipping it on and vanishing from the room. Wormtongue stumbled back and shrieked, "This is truly At the End of All Things!" Gríma continued sobbing all throughout the remaining days of the Third Age.
All jokes aside (even though this is mainly a joke deck), this actually isn't... the worst thing ever? The Doomed cards can really make Saruman into a demon, and combined with The One Ring and Strength and Courage, Saruman is somewhat ridiculous. He can do it all, and various healing effects from Warden of Healing and Ioreth help greatly. (Note, though, that due to At the End of All Things, you can only heal after the first three rounds, so it's a good idea to have healing prepared, because your "heroes" are most likely quite injured.)
Gríma can make large cost cards like Firyal extra beneficial with the readying effect on Saruman, allowing him to use cards like Word of Command cheaply. As soon as At the End of All Things flips, the deck has no problems consistently pumping out cards, and you will surely have a constant influx with Daeron's Runes, Deep Knowledge, and Mithrandir's Advice.
Mulligan aggressively for Song of Battle so that you can play Strength and Courage ASAP to make Saruman into a lean green killing machine.
Speaking of killing green things, ents make an appearance in this deck (what else could they be), providing an extra use for Song of Battle when paying for cards like Booming Ent and Beechbone that couldn't be played otherwise. Treebeard is even more effective than normal here, as he can be played for 3 resources. 3 resources for Treebeard?! You heard it here first.
The Contract's ability to tutor for any two cards in your deck is exceptionally powerful. It lets you find whatever you need in the current moment, whether it is access to a powerful ally to accelerate your board, Helm of Secrecy (shhh), Song of Battle, or Saruman's Staff, which is necessary to fully maximize your board state.
Now, on to the most fun part of this deck: Aragorn. Loragorn makes yet another appearance here, and boy is he funny and effective. With the added pressure of The One Ring and and all of the doomed cards, threat can obviously be a major, major issue, especially in scenarios that pressure you. However, this deck has a secret weapon. Aragorn comes in, resets the threat back down to thirty with a fully accelerated board state and The One Ring in play, and refuses to elaborate.
Never fear, Aragorn is here!

Jun 29, 2023Ah, that would be an issue, wouldn't it. Oh well, I think I'll just houserule it :) |
Jun 29, 2023there is another "thing" Strength and Courage can only be pad if a song of battle is in play, so, perhaps The One Ring is not worth it at all here. its a solid concept without ring. give him a weapon or leave him at att 5 (thx to contract) its still worth it. would include The Wizards's Voice and Defiant Challengeso good cards and you can play them with saruman |
Jun 29, 2023I think you're probably right in that a bit of reworking is necessary. I'll work on a new list. |
There is an issue with this game plan (I tried once too and failed all the same), The One Ring will not be moved to Aragorn with Helm of Secrecy's effect since it's immune to non-Master card effects. So you will lose upon activating Helm of Secrecy. But you can give The One Ring to Gríma and maybe give him Inner Strength...
