This is the deck I used for my Single Core Progression series to defeat The City of Ulfast. The video can be found here: https://youtu.be/UrtAnL2apR0
I mistakenly included Golden Belt, which is not available until the next AP (seems like that card should have came in the pack with Forth, The Three Hunters! ).
Anyway, this deck is a fantastic Forth, The Three Hunters! deck. You have all your bases covered, Beregond for defense, Éowyn for questing and attack once she is wielding Herugrim, and Gildor Inglorion for more questing/attacking and most importantly; card draw. Once you flip the contract you do not have a lot of cards to play, so using Gildor to draw you an extra card each round helps you find the one or two missing pieces you are looking for.
You should be able to flip the contact on turn 2, Beregond has one restricted attachment at the start of the game with The One Ring, get a Gondorian Shield or Armored Destrier on him to get his second. Eowyn is looking for Windfola, Snowmane and Herugrim. Gildor is looking for anything he can hold onto. Ideally Celebrían's Stone is for him, but the Dagger of Westernesse and Shield also work.
For this specific quest you should be able to get Beregond up to 9 to handle that giant city guard.
Good luck!

Aug 31, 2022I see. Thanks guys. I haven't used that tactic before in a deck... Will try it out sometime |
Aug 31, 2022Thanks for sharing -- this is a fun deck to take against a really challenging quest. I tried it out and managed a win on my third attempt (on Round 9 at 47 threat). The first attempt I got location locked and didn't have enough readies on Beregond to handle multiple attacks (from City Guard plus a beefed up Ulfast Sentry), so lost on I think Round 4 or 5. The second attempt I lost Round 3 due to the combo of Extra Vigil, raising my threat by 5 from 2A, and a Messenger from Mordor. I couldn't tank the Guard and deal with the Messenger's attack (again, no readying for Beregond). I think the biggest challenge I had was a lack of resources to play Unexpected Courage and/or Desperate Defense -- without these cards, there's no good way to handle more than one attack of more than 2 per round, as your heroes don't have the to take undefended attacks. Plus you need to play for Herugrim and Inner Strength, and also Windfola and Snowmane if you've already flipped. Not sure what to do about the lack of resources, except maybe something like Ranger Provisions or Wealth of Gondor (but these dilute your deck). tl;dr: This is a strong deck, but it still requires a decent amount of luck to beat City of Ulfast. |
Aug 31, 2022Using Behind Strong Walls would help as it is Tactics rather than Spirit. |
Can I ask what roll We Are Not Idle is playing in this deck? Is it discard fodder for some other card effects?
