Copterman 1298
DECK NAME - Dark Friends
OVERVIEW - This quest is sort of the Hills of Emyn Muil of the Dwarrowdelf Cycle. It's just tedious. The Locate Tests are exasperating, especially if you have Lost Effects in play. So I figure the best way to win The Long Dark is to 1) never quest unsuccessfully and 2) have so many cards in your hand that you never fail a Locate Test. This deck wins handily in 6-8 rounds every time (won it in 4 in the recording linked above).
HEROES
- Beravor - attach Song of Kings and Steward of Gondor; use her action every round
- Bilbo Baggins - accelerates card draw; attach 2X A Burning Brand, 3X Dúnedain Warning, and 3X Fast Hitch; boost him with Arwen Undómiel and Durin's Greaves if you happen to draw it; Bilbo will ultimately be your defender (crazy, I know) so don't quest with him
- Eowyn - attach Cave Torch and Celebrían's Stone and quest with her
STRATEGY
- SETUP - just look for a good opening hand
- FIRST ROUND - it's important to get an ally who could chump if needed out in round one; Henamarth Riversong is the best option; try to keep a resource on Beravor so she can potentially play Steward of Gondor in round 2
- CARD DRAW - Beravor, Bilbo and Gléowine; Gandalf is actually used to for his damage option
- THREAT REDUCTION - 3X Elrond's Counsel
- COMBAT - you can use Forest Snare on all but Great-Cave Troll or you can kill enemies with Gandalf
- LOCATE TESTS - you'll have plenty of cards in hand to discard for Locate Tests; 3X Erebor Hammersmith are great for recovering cards from your discard pile to use in another Locate Test
