Hey Quick story story time: So It’s the year 2021 and i have been actively been playing Marvel Champions since its release and due to shipping constraints i can’t get some of the new products for a while. So my gaming partner and I start looking at other LCGs to pass time till releases. We play pretty casually and aren’t worried about making the absolute best decks, we tend to care more about the stories that form from the game and character combinations. So we started to look at Arkham Horror and it seems really cool and my friend is buying into it. So cut to I’m cleaning out some boxes and I find the LOTR LCG Core Set box. I was surprised, I opened the box and what was inside? The full Core Set and the entire Mirkwood Cycle fully sleeved and all components and inserts! Turns out I bought them when they came out back in the day and never played it so I forgot completely about it! So now I am playing through it and loving it! So what I’m doing is a series of me going through the game for first time and getting packs in order and posting the decks that i use to beat them. Now I didn’t’t know quest log was a thing till today so I didn’t track the final scores of the Core Set.
The Deck: So this is the exact deck i used to beat the Core Set. In most card games i lean toward as Aggro and Resource generation. So seeing the Legolas card I got excited to kill small things to add quest counters. I also really like the simple combo of Questing with Aragorn and Théodred to basically untap for free, reminds me a little of Captain America from Champions. Typically with this deck you want to get some of your cheap allies out early and then use Steward of Gondor to quickly build up those resources. From there you start voltroning your heroes. I tend to always put Blade of Gondolin on Legolas and i typically always put Horn of Gondor on Aragorn which can cause some crazy resource generation. Oh and MVP of the deck is Sneak Attack combod with Gandalf.
Changes I’d make: So it only uses 1 Core Set so options are limited. I am hoping as I go through these packs that i can add on to this deck and make a more cohesive theme. I’ll add on to this deck in the next pack. I probably won’t change out the whole deck unless i run into a hero or series of heroes that make me want to jump ship.
