Thematic Saga Series: Deck 6
The Ring Goes South
Series Overview
Welcome to the Thematic Saga Series, where I will be taking the most thematic decks possible against a modified Saga Campaign, on DragnCards. Here are the rules for this Campaign:
1: Your decks must be as accurate as possible to the books. So in A Shadow of the Past's case, because it takes place in the Shire, I will only be using Hobbit allies.
2: I am allowed to change heroes to fit the theme and I will not be incurring the +1 threat penalty while swapping heroes this way. For example, if I used an ally version of Legolas or Gimli in The Breaking of the Fellowship, I could swap heroes so I can us them as heroes in The Uruk-Hai.
I follow the rest of the rules for a standard Campaign.
The Theme
The theme is obvious. The Fellowship will use the Fellowship contract, and that's that. Bill the Pony is in there for if you need an emergency contract flip, and because you can sneak him in while the Watcher has Frodo.
Game Notes
I actually flipped the contract with the correct members fairly early. After that I played a few attachments on people, mostly just boons. I had Frodo Baggins as a nice defender, with Sting's little direct damage effect, and Legolas had a nice attack booster. I avoided at all costs Tree-crowned Hill for obvious reasons. The Wargs were easy to deal with, but the Watcher in the Water was a pain, because when he stole Frodo, he un-flipped my contract and damaged Aragorn a lot. I was able to flip the contract again without Frodo Baggins, thanks to Bill the Pony. With the contract flipped I was easily able to damage the Watcher in the Water and then quest for success.
44 Threat,
7 Rounds,
1 Victory Points.
Boons Earned: Andúril, Sting, Glamdring, Mithril Shirt.
Burdens Earned: None.
Hope you enjoy, and I for one know I will not enjoy the next scenario, A Journey in the Dark.
Really cool series idea!
