Synopsis
A heavily defensive deck that was built to withstand the hordes of corsairs that assail you in sailing quests.
Design
I wanted a deck that could help beat Voyage Across Belegaer and Flight of the Stormcaller through the combat route to victory. These are quests that can pit you against a throng of enemies in an instant, so defense is key. Conveniently, the Dunedain allies fit in very nicely in this environment, so they are central to the overall strategy of the deck.
Strategy
- Mulligan for Legolas; the card draw that he provides does wonders for this deck.
- Beregond gets all of the Crams and defensive attachments.
- Aragorn and Amarthiúl share the offensive attachments. It's best for Aragorn to get first dibs, since Amarthiúl may be called to use his action for emergency defense.
- When facing off against a horde of corsairs, you have many options at your disposal:
- Thicket of Spears is your best defense.
- Beregond with his many readying effects: Cram, Behind Strong Walls, and Hold Your Ground!.
- Guardians of Arnor with their readying effects: Descendants of Kings and Hold Your Ground!.
- Gondorian Spearman with Spears of the Citadel and Gondorian Discipline are wonderfully potent.
- In order to complete sailing tests, I've included the cheap allies Snowbourn Scout and Vassal of the Windlord.

Jul 19, 2016Good point. If you want to use Raiment of War, I suggest swapping out the Spears of the Citadel. |
This is definitely the sort of deck I'd use Raiment of War in. The extra HP is really handy if you get stuck using Amarthiúl to defend.
Looks fun, though. And the Thicket of Spears should definitely help with some of those bigger ships.
