This is my thematic Rohan deck that beat Carn Dum. I used a version very close to this that beat Cair Andros.

The main idea: play on thematic mode (extra starting resource) and get real lucky with sorceries. I had the risky opportunity to stall stage two which also helped.

Okay in all seriousness it's an Eomer beatdown deck using the thematic combo of Firefoot and Guthwine. You ideally want to use Grimbold's ability every round you KNOW you are going to kill an enemy so you can recur him. It also triggers Éothain. I used Leadership Eomer for the ability of a turn one SoG and chipping away at enemies in staging. In hindsight I did this less than I thought so Tactics Eomer would likely be a stronger choice.

Eowyn gets the Steward of Gondor and Song of Hope. Used her ability turn one. You can recur Grimbold reliably this way.

My playthrough had Erkenbrand pumped up with two Armored Destrier, a Hauberk of Mail, Golden Belt, and Ancestral Armor. He was 6 / 7 . He can get take unexpected attacks from Thuradir and get rid of other shadow cards by defending twice per round with his steeds. You need to engage enemies whenever possible and only leave enemies in staging if Eomer can kill them next round.

Déorwine is integral in that you load him up with Hauberk of Mail and Round Shield potentially making him a 6 / 4 with shadow cancellation.

I'd definitely make changes despite my win. I'd take away a Warden of Helm's Deep in favor of Westfold Lancer. The reason for this is you're better off chumping Snowbourn Scout since the 3 of the Wardens don't usually survive shadow effects. I also had to remove all my Sterner than Steel turn two due to a treachery so you can definitely go without them. You have to wait for the Hauberks and Round Shields to use them anyways. I'd add another Secret Vigil in that case.

Eternal gratitude :) After 50+ unsuccessful and mostly very short attempts this deck helped us to beat this scenario with 2 players. Great job designing this. Thanks!

@rpiceage I'm glad it worked out for you! Carn Dum is a tough one!

This deck feels low on leadership resources and I don’t understand how it is one shotting enemies and using foe hammer. I must be doing something wrong but I don’t know what - I start strong on Carn Dum and get about 7 or 8 progress round one but then the deck just treads water - are you mulliganing for both SOG and Song of Hope? Questing falters after round one.

@DangerDragonuse Éowyns ability, either for killing an enemy or to quest battle (what u start with because of the startinglocation) save for 10+

@doomguard sorry if I was unclear.

After a few runs here is the trend on my strong starts and anemic continuations:

Mulligan for Steward. Maybe I get Firefoot too and a feint

Round 1: Eowyn uses her ability, Eomer and Erkenbrand also quest but Eomer can't attack because of cost of putting SOG on to Eowyn. Questing for 10 +5 +2 = 17. Draw a sorcery card which makes you discard any allies in your discard pile already (whiff). Staging area = 6, active location = 3. 8 progress on the quest = great start. Engage the garrison, use feint.

Round 2: draw 1 card. There are 43 cards left in the deck. I have 2/43 chance of getting a 1 willpower card, a 6 in 43 chance of getting a 2 willpower card, a 1 in 43 chance of getting song of hope (so max +3 willpower per turn to Eowyn), and a 34/43 chance of getting nothing that helps questing.

Let's say I pull Armored Destrier. I put it on Erkenbrand

I basically don't understand how I'm supposed to continue to put progress round after round on the quest, there isn't enough willpower. Let's say I quest with Eowyn for 4. Then I pull an orc, so the threat is 5 or 6 or 7. I'm threat goes up.

I pull the orc down, I defend with Erkenbrand, and don't kill the orc with Eomer but almost.

Round 3. I still have almost no chance of questing enough past the 4 in the staging area, but let's say I pull a westfold lancer, I quest for 6 now with Eowyn and lancer. I pull a location, 8 in the staging area. Still under questing.

Does this make sense? The deck starts strong but underquests thereafter, and I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

@DangerDragon its more understandable. and i think you are right, you need very much luck to do it because it lacks willpower, but it is possible. as described he want to use Grimbold very often, so willpower is +2 (his ability can be used even he is exhausted). then Éothain was mentioned another +2 if you get them fast. but that is all very luck depended (and Ceorl or a Westfold Lancer add onother +2). Éomer piles up to str 7 that kills some with 1 hit but all other with if i remember correctly. so every 2 rounds he can quest and kill an enemy.

imo it is possible but not very likely to make it solo in normal mode in not-campaignmode.
