This deck is all about setting up Vigilant Dúnadan to defend most attacks for the table in a multi-player game.
Thurindir can grab Keep Watch right away, and the deck will quest for 13 on the first turn, yeilding a decent probability that it can be completed right away. Once that (or any other sidequest) is complete, Vigilant Dúnadan does not exhaust to defend. He should be targetted with Arwen Undómiel's ability. This will boost him to 3 and give him sentinel, allowing him to defend all attacks on the table. Most other cards are included in order to keep boosting him or to draw into the combo. Wild Stallion boosts his to 4. Giving him Elf-friend and Cloak of Lórien boosts him to 5. Círdan the Shipwright can target him with Narya to boost him to 6. With Keep Watch, he is defending for an effective 7. He can also pick up Round Shield to help with any shadows.
In case 7, sentinel, and not exhausting to defend are not enough to block all the enemies in play, Honour Guard and Warden of Healing can help to prevent/heal damage.
Steward of Gondor is not actually necessary in the deck. It can be played on another hero or given to Éowyn in order to help pay for the big allies. (She will need help from that, Captain's Wisdom, Tighten Our Belts, or A Good Harvest to get the Vigilant Dúnadan and Legolas into play.
Basically any heroes could take the and slots, so heroes with high starting willpower were chosen to accelerate finishing the sidequest. Gildor Inglorion also provides access to additional card draw (which is typically what he will use his resource for).

Oct 20, 2020with denethor instead of gildor it can be done 1. round (steward on eowyn and add 1 res from denethor to the now gondor-eowyn). with envoy of pelargir (+ captains wisdom) it can also be done 1. round all in all imo to much single cards needed. i can imagine a fellowship with this and you other vigilant dunedaindeck can do the job relatively save. (instead of thurindir u could take beravor, than you have more carddraw. skip arwen here for miruvor, thats an additional option to switch ressources. ) one of both decks will be able to get him into the game and either of them can put the stallion. than with stallion, arwen and cirdan it can soonish be realised and he defends for 5/6 without cloakparty |
Oct 21, 2020I have a built deck with same idea (Vigilant Dúnadan + Arwen Undómiel + Wild Stallion. (https://ringsdb.com/deck/view/235407) In my case I play 2 spheres and The Storm Comes, with Hirgon to lower the cost, but I'm reallly liking your approach with high starting Willpower to ensure a rapid completion of the side quest. Also being able to quest with one Vigilant dunedain, and then ready it with Narya in the combat phase is great. My only concern is your starting threat, which I fear it can be a big burden in some quests (I'm looking at you, Anduin troll) What about using A Very Good Tale as another way to fetch for Vigilant Dúnadan? You have Thalion which is a high cost ally which without resource dependance, and you can also yo use the ally put into play with Sneak Attack for it. |

A side quest that could actually help a lot this deck concept is The Storm Comes, so that you can pay for the Vigilant Dúnadan without needing A Good Harvest or Steward of Gondor on Éowyn
