This is the first draft of a deck I'm attempting to make focused around Mariner's Compass, and it really shows.

Basically, the deck tries to win by hiding behind the other decks while it wears down the encounter deck, using Mariner's Compass to get rid of troublesome locations (like the evil Twisting Passages from The Long Dark), Entangling Nets and Forest Snare to cripple enemies and Fresh Tracks and Argalad to chip away at the ones you don't Trap, all while Denethor and Interrogation rearrange the encounter deck to suit your whims.

Play tips:

  • Lindon Navigator 90% of the time isn't going to quest but instead be used either for their combat stats (1 in is quite nice) or to activate either Mariner's Compass or Guarded Ceaselessly.
  • Avoid using Denethor for defending if you can, his ability to manipulate the encounter deck is quite valuable.

First round picks for potential cuts: Ranger Spear (too few targets), and Needful to Know.

Very cool concept and deck! No Firyal though? You could also add a couple of Guarded attachments to better make use of the location shuffling (putting them in play after quest resolution with The King's Return)

@Alonewolf87, Firyal and Guarded attachments would be good, especially Firyal, but I don't have them in my collection. Latest AP I have is City of Corsairs. Thanks for the recommendations, though!

nice new deck-idea. i can imagine that it burns hotter if you pair it up with this deck: ringsdb.com then you have better scrying at all, and in this deck you can put in damrod for cheaper traps and carddraw without leaving the theme of the deck (use compass +scrying +traps/staging dmg)

if you want the "put on bottom of the deck" of denethor even with better scrying from the other deck, you can still use motk fyrial (not only put on bottom, discard).

@doomguard thanks for the suggestions! I can see these decks working well together, though my main concern would be starting . That might not be that big of a concern, though, if the Denethor deck mulligans for Visionary Leadership and some allies.

As for Firyal, yes, she is really good and quite possibly one of the top 3 Messenger of the King allies...but both of those cards are also outside my card pool, sadly. If I did have her, rest assured, something would be getting cut so I could slot her in.

What about adding Stone of Elostirion? You can use Marnier's Compass to make it unguarded easily and get a little willpower boost and card draw.

@kattattack22 the Stone would be quite good here, but I don't have it in my collection.

I have the entire Dream-chaser cycle (including box), Khazad-Dum, Redhorn Gate, the Long Dark, Hunt for Gollum, Conflict at the Carrock, and 1 Core Set.
