A multiplayer deck designed at the request of a Patreon supporter looking for a deck with Grimbeorn the Old and a bit of healing.
Pretty straightforward to pilot: Mulligan for a Master of the Forge, which will keep your Damrod-trap engine going. Quest with Eowyn and Damrod while Grimbeorn defends and kills stuff. You could say this deck was designed specifically to make Valour of the North shine, but I came across the card after the deck was mostly built as a happy coincidence.
In late game, you might want to be killing more than 1 enemy per round in order to pull your weight, in which case you can replace one of Grimbeorn's weapons with Rohan Warhorse. As long as you first defend a weak enemy that you can kill with Grimbeorn's response, the Warhorse will allow you to ready to defend a second attack (an maybe kill that enemy too!).
Oh yeah, and don't forget Éowyn's response!

Jul 25, 2019Is Valor of the North really that good? It's only +3 Attack or Defense for a single attack, I've ended up scrapping one use only cards similar to it for other decks (Looking at you unseen strike). When I first read it I thought that it applied on the attack and defense, but it only says "Until the end of this attack.", so it doesn't stick around after Grimbeorn defends because that attack is technically over and Grimbeorn's attack back is considered a new attack. Am I missing something rules wise? Or was I just too negative on one time use trading a card for + 3 defense or attack. Is it more important on the defense aspect? |

You could trade it for Blade Mastery for a similar type effect that will work for both the defense and the attack, but I was trying to keep the cost curve down due to Grimbeorn's expensive ability. |

Very excited to try this out since I've mostly ignored Valour of the North. There are some great moments to be had with that card!
I like that you can swap out Eowyn pretty easily in a pick-up game where someone else really wants to use her in another deck.
