A solo deck designed for the Journey Along the Anduin scenario, using only cards found in a single core set.

Dealing with the Hill Troll

This deck has two main strategies for dealing with the Hill Troll that is in the staging area when the game begins:

1) Avoid engaging the troll by reducing your threat with The Galadhrim's Greeting or Gandalf's enter play response. In the meantime, build up an ally army capable of killing the troll.

2) Trap the troll in a Forest Snare, then take it down at your own pace.

A reliable way to kill the troll is to Sneak Attack Gandalf in to play during the combat phase, and use his ability to put 4 damage on the troll. Defend the troll's attack with Gandalf, then do as much damage as you can with your remaining characters. If the troll survives the round, bring Gandalf back during the following round to deliver the killing blow.

General strategy tips

Steward of Gondor goes on Éowyn. Stand and Fight provides a way for Éowyn to spend her extra resources on off-sphere allies, and also lets you get a free use of her +1 action: pitch an ally to trigger her ability, then play Stand and Fight to put the discarded ally into play.

Éowyn also gets The Favor of the Lady and Celebrían's Stone, since she is the party's dedicated quester.

Use Théodred for questing or combat as required.

Beravor is the party's strongest defender, so keep her ready for that purpose if you are likely to be facing enemies. She receives Unexpected Courage, to get extra uses of her card draw ability.

Ever Vigilant can let you get two uses of Gandalf during combat with the Hill Troll (i.e. defend and attack). Or, it can give you a fighting chance if you are swarmed by enemies during stage 3 of the quest.
