Gríma. The bane of multi-player and a boon to solo. In the right types of decks he is fan-fricken-tastic.
This deck is a solo deck, you can bring it to a multiplayer game, but it will probably be the last time you are invited. So, knowing this, I made it a very greedy deck. Arwen Undómiel, Steward of Gondor, and unique allies and lots of Doomed make this a tough sell to your friends.
Opening Hand:
Yeah, you want Steward of Gondor. Play that on Arwen so she can recur Elven-light multiple times a round. Denethor can now pass her a resource since she is Gondor. If you have Glorfindel in your opening hand as well as Steward you can play him on turn 1 by discarding him for one resource and gaining 3 resources from Steward and Denethor. If no Steward then look for Eleven Light and lots of card Draw.
Gameplay:
You will be able to quest for 5 and defend with Denethor on turn 1 without playing a card, so you have time to build your boardstate. Don't be afraid to use Doomed effects. With 3 Elrond's Counsel and 2 Woodmen's Clearing, plus a Dwarven Tomb I have never had a problem keeping my threat in check.
Keys of Orthanc go on Grima. Unexpected Courage, Dúnedain Warning, Protector of Lórien, and Armored Destrier go on Denethor.
Let's talk about Steward of Orthanc for a moment. He is fantastic with Eleven Light and Keys of Orthanc. Play Eleven light to draw a card, Doomed 1 to draw a 2nd card, Keys kick in a resource. That's a really solid engine to get running. Plus he quests for 2!
The hero line-up is lacking attack. No worries, Glorfindel and the Ents will take care of it. With Arwen getting up to 5 resources a round she can easily pull back those Eleven Lights you use to ready Glorfindel, helping you find the ents.
If you have not had a chance to play around with the doomed keyword I highly suggest you give it a try.
