Onidsen 1134
This is an mono- deck designed to introduce new players to the Tactics sphere, alongside a monosphere deck of each of the other spheres.
The basic design philosophy is to build decks that are straightforward to play, and don't require tricky interactions or remembering lasting conditions. However, the decks do include some interesting combinations for new players to explore, and aim to give a brief overview of how the sphere functions. In addition, they aim to give each player something to do during each phase of the game.
The core competency of the Tactics sphere is combat, and this deck aims to deliver. Beregond is the single most powerful defending hero in the game, and Bard the Bowman is probably the best attacking hero, at least in multiplayer. Éowyn offers two things to this deck - first, she gives the tactics player something to do in order to contribute to the quest phase, but also offers the chance of a single epic turn in which she can kill one or several powerful enemies.
This deck is generally straightforward, although there are a few interesting tricks in it. It has a lot of defense - Beregond and Defender of Rammas, and a lot of attack power - Bard the Bowman plus Legolas plus a number of other options. The Knight of Minas Tirith is a powerful attacker, and in this mono-tactics deck it can pull some interesting shenanigans by pulling an enemy out of the staging area, thus reducing the threat. If the enemy is sufficiently weak, it could even kill it outright. The Westfold Outrider offers a more consistent ability to pull enemies out of the staging area, at the cost of discarding the ally and not getting the initial attack.
The Warriors of Dale offer more offensive punch, but equipped with a Raiment of War, they become truly terrifying. Grimbold and Feint control combat for other players, while Gandalf, Foe-hammer, and Open the Armory draw cards.
The deck features a lot of weapon and armor attachments, so Open the Armory is unlikely to whiff. These attachments can go on characters all across the board, to boost their abilities in combat.
The deck also features a little bit of direct damage - primarily the Gondorian Spearman and Spear of the Citadel, which can be played either on the spearman, or onto Beregond.
All in all, it provides a solid introduction to the basic idea of the tactics sphere.
