Wandalf the Gizzard 2570
This is my take on the Song deck. This particular archetype saw a drop in popularity after the errata of Love of Tales, and even hero Elfhelm couldn’t really bring them back into the spotlight. But even after the errata, the song deck is super strong, as I found.
Mulligan for Love of Tales. If you don’t get it in your opening hand, Beravor, Daeron’s Runes, Peace and Thought, and Master of the Forge will ensure you find it fast. As you try to keep afloat in the first few rounds, it will help play more cards faster and make it to the mid game. By this point, you’re songs should be out, your engine going at full power, and you can start plunking down allies to close out the quest.
The deck is surprisingly consistent in getting a huge board fast, given that you can avoid combat early (that’s what Denethor is for). If some enemies sneak by, Forest Snare, Burning Brand, Feint, and the Vassals should keep them on their toes. Save Gandalf for threat reduction.
The sideboard is there to provide more variety in your songs. I think that is all. Thanks, and keep singing!

Oct 25, 2018The main power of Songs comes from being able to provide resource acceleration (Love of Tales) and smoothing to the standard mono-Lore build that seeks to stall until you have a huge board presence. As long as you can stay alive early, each progressive round becomes more easy to survive until you can steamroll the quest. I hope this deck works well for you. |
Oct 26, 2018So Love of Tales basically lets you play songs for free, so that you can access the cheap allies from other spheres. This lets you stall until you get bigger allies out. And wasting cards on songs isn't a big deal because Lore. Is that right? A neat concept. I haven't seen this before. What was the errata? |
Oct 26, 2018Before the errata, Love of Tales did not exhaust; so you could use it multiple times per round. With all three copies out (in the realm of possibility with Lore's card draw) each song you played was a net resource gain. |
Oct 26, 2018Thanks for the explanation. I will try this out pre-errata |
Nov 04, 2018I haven't played a song deck for a good while! I got to play several games with this deck and had a good time! Check out my thoughts on my experiences on my LOTR Deck Test blog: lotrdecktest.wordpress.com |
Nov 04, 2018Thanks for trying it out! |
I have to try this. Songs seem underpowered but then again I am not a great deck builder.
