PROXIES Beravor = proxy for Haldan, so -1 an +1 Haldir of Lórien for the Mirkwood Hunter ally from Ghost of Framsburg Dark Knowledge for Woodmen's Path from Roam Across Rhovanion Late Adventurer for South Away! from Roam Across Rhovanion
This is my version of the Haldan deck that I brought and improved during Con of the Rings 2018, where it attracted a lot of attention. It does use some cards from Roam across Rhovanion, so I will update to remove some proxies off this list in a later update.
This is a multiplayer orientated deck, where you provide goodies for the other members of your team. Make sure that you pump out a lot of attachments on (active) locations so that others can benefit off of them. The real surprise for me was South Away!, where you not only save yourself the travel cost, but also lower everyones threat by the number of attachments on the location you travelled to. Setting up this combo is easy, as attachments are cheap and very worth while.
Mulligan for attachments for on locations, as well as Light of Valinor and Asfaloth who both can be played on Glorfindel turn 1. This allows you to counter any location lock from the get go, while also setting up Glorfindel as an attacker. Haldan won't exhaust to quest when a location with an attachment is active, so that is a free 2 willpower on most turns. If you find yourself not engaged with enemies, you can use Haldan for Guarded Ceaselessly to lower the threat of a location in the staging area by 2, making him quest for 2 additional points basically.
Rest of the deck relies on getting a lot of attachments on locations, and then sniping them with Asfaloth, Mirkwood Explorer and The Evening Star. If you are short a location (or there is none active for Elf-stone) play a copy of The Hidden Way to find a location and get it active.
Ancient Mathom draws you your cards, Woodmen's Clearing lowers your threat, and Ranger Provisions gets you more resources to fuel your abilities. Elf-stoneallows you to pump out allies like Northern Tracker and the Mirkwood Hunter
The deck draws like crazy with the Ancient Mathoms and Haldan. Remember that Haldan only triggers off of the active location, so he requires some setup.Gandalf is added for flexibility and to have a sturdy ally into play. Elladan and Elrohir provide additional combat capabilities, though the deck lacks some defencive options.
I have been really debating on what hero line up to use besides Haldan. Either version of Glorfindel works, but Lore resources are slightly more useful than Spirit ones in this deck. The debate between Éowyn and Merry comes down to if you want a low threat or more willpower. Either option works, so feel free to play around with that.
This deck performed very well during Con of the Rings 2018, beating both The Oath and Caves of Nibin-Dum, as well as surviving the longest against Caleb Grace's encounter deck for Woodland Realm. You will need a partner deck to handle defence and occasionally attack as well, but you repay them with the attachments on locations that benefit the other players as well. This deck will perform even better if other players also run attachments for on locations, making the entire group benefit off of them. I really like this deck as you are sharing the wealth, while also having a stable source of card draw. You will have to reveal some locations though, but The Hidden Way and Dunedain Pathfinder can help you with that.

Oct 16, 2018Would this deck be solo-viable? It seems like you might run short on defenders. |
Oct 16, 2018The deck was amazing to see in person! Watching Ancient Mathom and Elf-stone trigger off the same location was definitely awesome. Spirit Glorfindel is nice to keep enemies from engaging you, but the cards certainly skew towards Lore. I love Riddermark's Finest, so I'll see if I can get a Spirit Spirit Lore lineup to achieve any modicum of success. Thanks for getting the list up! |

Oct 16, 2018Did Caleb release the contents of his deck? |
Oct 17, 2018Ranger Provisions, which you mention in the write-up, isn't in the deck list. Should it be? Or was that a typo of sorts? Beyond that, I'm glad to hear this deck works. I wasn't sold on Haldan when I first heard of him, but it sounds like I should be. |

Oct 17, 2018What about Beregond in stead of Éowyn? With Haldan and Glorfindel questing you're not really low on starting . It still works fine to partner with a combat-heavy deck in multi, as you can still let that deck handle combat, and sentinel across the table. Perhaps then also sub in 2x Arwen Undómiel for Elladan and Elrohir, compensating for the loss of starting and the reduced need for defence (or possibly Rhovanion Outrider). |
Cool that you created a new Lorefindel deck!
