2 Decks, 1 simple goal: beat the 3 core misions.
Description
This two decks were made to try to beat the 3 core misions using just cards from 1 core box.
I used to play with my girlfriend, and she likes healings and going for misions, so she usually plays with lore and spirits. I'm the sword and the shield, and my duty is to protect her heroes until we beat the misions.
We bit the two first so far, and we'll try to beat Dol Guldur soon.
UPDATE: we just beat DOL GULDUR in our very first attempt. We are so happy! The deck works fine, i guess!!!
Its my very first own decks, so i hope you like it.
Any suggestions will be nice!

Nov 27, 2017 Neirolh 224Hi We j ust finished the third quest, and guess what? We beat it on the first try. I'm checking everything for mistakes, but i'm pretty sure there's none. Maybe we have an amazing good luck, because everybody suffers Dol guldur, and we just passed it without much problems. This is an amazing game, we love it!!! |
Nov 27, 2017 Wandalf the Gizzard 2508You did WHAT?! That is very impressive. Many, many players hit this brick wall and take 100+ attempts to pull of a clean 50 card, progression style, standard mode win. It only took me four attempts, but first try? Great job! Not to discredit your win, but I encourage you to double check the rulebook for mistakes (like giving allies resources, not raising your threat from unsuccessful questing unless you committed characters to the quest, etc.). What were the three cards guarding the objectives? Which hero was the prisoner? Also, a big mistake I once made, did you put the Nazgul into play when you rescued the prisoner? |
Nov 27, 2017 Wandalf the Gizzard 2508Also, the restriction on quest cards 1B and 2B that allows only one ally to be played each round is often forgettable. Of course, you can get around that with Sneak attack or Stand and Fight. |
Nov 27, 2017 Neirolh 224Yeah, i double checked everything because its seems weird to me too, but i didn't find any mistake. Im new in this game but i have a lot on my shoulders with boardgames. With Éowyn its like too hard to fail a quest (every round we send Éowyn, Theodred and Thalin). I send the resource from Theodred correctly... The cards guarding the objectives were a treason with no effect (dealing damage to exhausted heros), a place where we travel first round, and an enemy that Dúnhere kills first round aswell. The prisoner was Legolas, and the Nazgul was puted into preparation area when Legolas was rescued, but as we are keeping alies in hand because the rule that we can't play more than once per round, we have two gandalfs ready, and a lots of mana. When the Nazgul showed up, first round we play a Gandalf (four damage), and second round another one (four more damage). In adittion to the damage dealt by Thalin, that take him off. I don't know, maybe we did something wrong, but i'm pretty sure we didn't. We'll play again this week or the next, so we will see xD Sorry for the thousands mistakes i surelly did make, but i'm not english :( |
Nov 27, 2017 Wandalf the Gizzard 2508Wheeew. Seems legit. The only mistake I noticed was that you dealt a damage to the Nazgul with Thalin. Since it was put into play, not revealed from the encounter deck, he wouldn't take damage from Thalin. I'm assuming you made engagement checks against the enemy Dunhere killed first turn, since he can still only attack during the normal combat phase; his ability just widens the target range. Also, don't worry about the English ;) I hope you keep enjoying this game. It's got a lot to offer. |
Nov 27, 2017 Neirolh 224Oh, i did it wrong, so. Last time Thalin deals damage incorrectly! :D Dunhere can attack an enemy in the preparation area, and as far as i know, he can do it BEFORE the "check" phase. When our heroes can, willingly face an enemy. Am i right? or no? :S However, the enemy thread is more than ours, so it didn't face us yet in first round. |
Nov 28, 2017 Wandalf the Gizzard 2508Here's a run down on engagements and combat. One thing to note is that you engaging enemies and enemies engaging you mean the same thing. So, the first step of the encounter phase is optional engagements. Each player may choose to engage one enemy from the staging area, regardless of threat. Then Engagement Checks happen, where enemies in staging take turns checking the players threat to see if they engage. These checks, unlike the optional engagements, are mandatory. In the combat phase, after enemies are dealt shadow cards, you declare defenders and those attacks resolve, you can chose to attack back at the enemies with any characters that are still not exhausted. Usually, you can only attack enemies engaged with you, but ranged characters can attack enemies engaged with another player and Dunhere can also attack enemies in the staging area. Cards like quick strike are the only ways to attack enemies before engagements and enemy attacks happen; Dunhere must still wait until after (though you can play quick strike on Dunhere). Also, an unrelated note on Thalin is that he damages enemies as they are revealed, not after, so he straight up kills the eastern crows before they can surge (they still get shuffled back into the encounter deck per their forced effect though). |
Nov 28, 2017 Neirolh 224Thank you for the observation, we'll do Dunhere's ability well from now. Another think we made wrong is that in the third quest (3B) we can play allies as usual, and we still play with the limit of once per turn. We still have a lot to learn, obviously xD |
Glad to see new players are still getting into this game! The questing/control deck looks good, though I would sub out some combination of Will of the West, Fortune or Fate, and Power in the Earth for Forest Snare and Wandering Took.
The combat deck looks like it need a bit more work. I would sub out Common Cause, Rain of Arrows, Stand Together, Swift Strike, and one Orc-Slayer for Grim Resolve, For Gondor, Silverlode Archer, and Citadel Plate.
Be prepared to be smashed pretty hard on the third quest, it's one of the hardest in the game. I hope you guys have fun with these decks and stay with the game, I dove into the game about a year and a half ago and I am still playing. It's a great game!
